A great visual spiritual gift, greatly appreciated. Can you kindly post a link here so that we can share with others in an email who are not subscribers? Gracias!
  • Kim Malcolm: The Balloons at Calle Torres Landa
Kim, What a superb writer you are! May I share this on my FB page? And may I mention the idea we discussed at lunch or is that still percolating?!

I am in 100% agreement with every point you made about the great fortune of having San Miguel as our home. People who say that San Miguel is overrun by ex pats have either never been here or, when they are, spend their time in expat hang outs. I invite them to come walk our neighborhood, Colonia Independencia, or visit the Mercado de San Juan de Dios!

  • Upholsterer
    Muchísimas Gracias, Carol López!

And Patricia Frey, Abrazos on Zacateros 24 near Pila Seca has many fabrics for sale, over 80. They are cotton sheeting, not the thickness of upholstery fabrics, but I have used them for the fabrics in my home for 15 years and they are still without tears, breakage, wear, as do many of our customers. We are open Mon to Sat 10am to 6pm; Sunday 10am to 5pm.

  • WOW Factor: Doctor Guapo
Bonnie, Delightful story! What is the hospital that Doctor Guapo works in so I can be treated by him? Only kidding!

Actually, can you share the name of the hospital for reference? Is it Hospital Joya?! Or another? Glad to know that you are well!
  • WOW Factor: The Martha Stewart of Gabon
What a wonderful read! Gracias, Bonnie! I thoroughly enjoyed your story and always your writing!
  • How do you like the new email format?

  • PCR TEST AND RIDE TO MEXICO CITY
A lab in Independencia that I have worked with for years does PCR tests and all other types of tests. The owner, Luisa Eugenia, will come to your home for in home tests after 4pm.

In my opinion, this is the best lab in town: easy parking, rarely other people waiting, large spacious lab, highly professional owner who THOROUGHLY performs the tests, locally owned (not a chain), home testing service, husband is a professor of laboratory science and works with Luisa Eugenia.

  • Gallery Robbery
With all due respect to your concerned comments to, Nanci, and especially to the victim employee and owner, and to all of us who love this city, I want to share that Abrazos, my store on Zacateros, was robbed at noon on a busy Saturday afternoon—in 2014. As I recall there were other stores robbed in Centro around the same time. Where there are businesses, there are robberies, everywhere in the world. My bookstore and a neighboring dress shop in a professional upscale neighborhood in Berkeley California was robbed at gunpoint twice during the day. Whether this is an escalation in San Miguel, we can never know, I only know that having lived here 21 years, these things happen, sadly, in our small business community.

  • Playing dice with Covid-19
Statistics are only part of the story. The issue for many is the dread of the PROCESS of death by Covid often without loved ones able to be nearby or hold your hand or stroke your face. If you’ve ever died with a family member where all of these things are possible, dying can actually be a beautiful, loving and memorable experience to share with the dying and your family. Dying by Covid is horrid, whether it’s a 5% chance of a .005 chance.
  • "Tired of your COVID lies"
Did you happen to notice their location? I imagine it was Mars. Smile. Your work and information for public health is greatly appreciated in our home and in the community, Glenn.
