For the younger, unvaccinated age groups, the partial July total already exceeds the total for the entire month of June including a big jump among 10-19 year olds. For the older, and at least partially vaccinated age groups, there are fewer cases in July, so far, than the month of June.

    By Elizabeth Burleigh

On July 13, 2021, during the morning press conference, Dr. López Gatell, Deputy Secretary of Health, announced that Mexico has entered the third wave of the pandemic. The first wave was in February 2020, the second wave began in October 2020 and peaked in January 2021. The third wave began four weeks ago, on June 15, 2021, when the number of COVID-19 cases increased again.

The red graphic below shows the increase in the number of daily COVID-19 cases nationwide from late June 2021 to July 14, 2021 (coronavirus. gob. mx).

I was asked yesterday "Why is SMAFAQ not reporting increase in cases."

To which I pointed out this post, and the post The Actual Number of Covid-19 Cases in SMA.

And, I pointed to the the language in each of the recent Coronavirus Dashboard's, like today's Coronavirus Dashboard July 20, 2021:
There can be a lag in the reporting of official confirmed results. 16 new cases have been confirmed in the last week and 29 new cases have been confirmed in the last two weeks. The actual number of cases could be much higher (10 to 30 or more times the official confirmed cases)*.

16 new confirmed cases in the last week x 30 is 480 possible new cases in SMA in the last week.

Also, if someone is not a subscriber to our daily email digest, they probably miss most of the content from SMAFAQ.
