'It's where we come from': the River People in Mexico left without a river
They are called the River People, but they no longer have a river.

Inocencia González is the traditional tribal elder of the Cucapá – the River People – in northern Mexico. She spends her days beading traditional chaquira jewellery to sell at the community museum, and reminiscing about happier times spent fishing for tilapia and mullet.

González grew up in the Colorado River delta when the mighty waterway and lakes provided abundant food, water, medicines and spiritual nourishment for her people to thrive.

Mexico Unveiled Its Recreational Cannabis Bill: 8 Things You Need to Know
On Oct. 17, 2019, a number of Mexican Senate committees unveiled draft legislation that would make our neighbor to the south the third country worldwide, after Uruguay and Canada, to legalize recreational marijuana. As reported by Canamo Mexico and Marijuana Moment, the 74 article, 42-page draft is similar to a bill proposed last year by Interior Secretary Olga Sanchez Cordero, who was then serving as a senator. However, the current legislation also incorporates bits and pieces of numerous other legislative proposals, and may be further modified by input received from the public.

Here are eight things you should know about Mexico's groundbreaking cannabis bill, which seems to be very close to becoming law. ...

Paul Theroux Wants You to Know That You Don’t Know Mexico
Paul Theroux visited Mexico seven times over the course of one year while doing research for his new book, On the Plain of Snakes. He drove the entire length of the U.S.–Mexico border and spoke with immigrants fleeing poverty, corruption, and gang violence. He was charmed by dynamic cities like Monterrey and Mexico City. He visited areas populated primarily by indigenous communities and had at least one scary run-in with a corrupt cop. And he got to meet Subcomandante Marcos, spokesperson for the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.

But the event that really stood out for Theroux, and for him seemed to typify his south-of-the-border experience, occurred in San Dionisio Ocotepec, a small town in the state of Oaxaca. It was there that Theroux happened to be invited to a family meal during a period of mourning for an old woman who had just died.

Walmart stores post ominous signs warning of a 'national supply shortage' of dish soap that's expected to persist for weeks
Walmart stores have posted signs warning shoppers of a "national supply shortage" of dish soap that could last weeks.

At a Walmart store in Richmond, Virginia, on Tuesday, a sign posted in the soap aisle said: "Dish soap is experiencing a national supply shortage, impacting product availability for our customers. These shortages will remain until Dec. 1. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you."

The shelves around the sign appeared to be fully stocked with soap, however, despite the ominous warnings of a shortage.

Here’s What I’m Worried About with the Everything Bubble
I’m not going to call it “tech,” because most of the startups in that so-called tech space aren’t tech companies. They’re companies in mundane businesses. And many of these companies aren’t startups anymore but mature companies that have been in business for over a decade and now have tens of thousands of employees. And then there is the entire shale-oil and gas space that has turned the US into the largest oil and gas producer in the world.

They all share two things in common:
    • One, they’re fabulously efficient, finely tuned, and endlessly perfected cash-burn machines.
    • And two, investors in these companies count on new cash from new investors to bail out and remunerate the existing investors.
This scheme is a fundamental part of the Everything Bubble, and there is a huge amount of money involved, and it has a big impact on the real economy ...
