Enjoy a morning in nature, while counting birds for science.

Join Audubon de Mexico on Saturday, December 17th, for a morning birdwalk and to count birds for the 123rd annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count.

You do not have to be an experienced birder to participate as our leaders, Luke Rich, Norman Besman and Bob Graham, are all seasoned birders who enjoy sharing their knowledge with others.

How does it work? We'll meet up at 7:45 am to check-in and form three teams. Each team will head out to a specific site with a designated leader: El Charco del Ingenio, our beautiful botanical garden; the Rio Laja, near the bridge at Cieneguita, with a rich varied habitat; or Peña Blanca, another bird-rich site a few miles past the Presa Allende dam.

Why count birds? The combined CBC data from all over the Western Hemisphere will provide a living snapshot of bird populations throughout the Americas, helping researchers study their movements and overall health.

CBC data was key to U.S. Audubon’s landmark Birds and Climate Change Report, which predicts that due to global warming, more than half of North America’s bird species will be forced out of their current ranges.
