    New Parking Shuttle Route

    This morning the remodeling works on Guadalupe Avenue started in #SAnMigueldeAllende where an arcade will be built; activists demonstrate during the start of the project and shout slogans such as: No to Transplant, No to ecocide in the area.
    Just at this time, late at night, the #Manifestación on Guadalupe Avenue to prevent 41 trees from being removed. They have been stranded for more than 17 hours collecting signatures. Ask if someone likes to bring them coffee.

    The exhibit “Tutankhamen, the tomb, The gold and the curse” has traveled around Mexico and the US and now it’s coming to the state of Guanajuato!

    Starting September 26th, come see what has wowed and amazed people for decades. While there’ll be no mummies, on display will be 200 replicas of some of the 3500 artifacts uncovered in 1922 in Egypt. These include 3000 year-old funeral masks, embalming tools, jewelry and more.

    On October 5, for the third consecutive year, the city will mark Oktoberfest, the world-famous beer festival that is one of the most important events on the German calendar. San Miguel de Allende’s version of the event will be held in the Instituto Allende’s gardens from 1pm until midnight.

    Nationwide homicides spiral halted, but spike in Guanajuato, Michoacán
    National homicide numbers remained unchanged between July and August but Guanajuato and Michoacán both saw significant increases in violence.

    There were 3,054 victims of homicide and femicide in each of July and August, according to the National Public Security System (SNSP). The unchanged figures for the two months are 0.6% lower than the 3,074 homicides recorded in June. ...

    While the spiraling homicide rate has been halted since the nationwide deployment of the National Guard on June 30, violence has not been contained uniformly across the country.

    The high-impact crime that has had the greatest increase this year is extortion, up 36 percent compared to 2018.     Hurricane Lorena Moves Up Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos Flights Resume
    Hurricane Lorena spared the resort-studded twin cities of Los Cabos a direct hit, instead heading up the east coast of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula early Saturday prompting new warnings and watches in that coastal area.

    The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Lorena was a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, and its center was about 55 miles north-northwest of La Paz, Mexico. It was heading to the northwest at 9 mph on a forecast track parallel to the coast through the Sea of Cortez.

    It was expected to approach the northwestern coast of mainland Mexico late Saturday and Sunday.

    Here's What Else We're Watching in the Atlantic
    The first system, a tropical wave dubbed Invest 99L by the NHC, has a high chance of development as it moves quickly westward toward the Windward Islands. The large tropical wave is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to the Lesser Antilles through Sunday.

    In addition to rain, gusty winds are expected in the Leeward Islands.

    The NOAA Hurricane Hunters found that this disturbance is a sharp tropical wave with no well-defined center of circulation in a flight through the system Saturday afternoon.

    Tropical Storm Imelda Will Likely Be Southeast Texas’ Fifth 500-Year Flood in Five Years
    Tropical Storm Imelda hit Southeast Texas this week, causing incredible flooding in much of the region. Some parts of the Houston-Galveston area recorded more than 40 inches of rain, inching toward the records set during Harvey. A flash flood warning was issued from the Texas-Louisiana border, reaching as far west as Fort Bend County. More rain fell in Houston on Thursday than during Hurricane Ike, which hit the region almost exactly 11 years ago.
