A group of women in San Miguel Viejo started a project to create environmentally-friendly products that are practical and usable for the community and to form a self-sustaining cooperative business. in December they made facemasks for their families and the children of the community. Sewing machines and tables have been donated by local charities and individuals but the project is in need of fabric to create the products. If you sew or quilt, or you have left over materials that you no longer need, please consider donating it to the project.

This sewing atelier (workshop) will provide the opportunity to make items that will help woman and their families to improve living conditions and possibly find forms of self-employment or work related to sewing. The project will train six to eight persons for a one year program to create environmentally-friendly products that are practical and usable for the community and beyond, and to form a self-sustaining cooperative business.

Look for these upcoming items that will be for sale through social media and news sites such as SMAFAQ, The Civil List, local bazaars and at www.ojala-ninos.org.

Please help get these projects off the ground by donating any fabrics or sewing items you no longer need or a gift sewing materials. Your generous donation will be an invaluable asset needed for building an ecologically self-sustaining community.

Donations can be picked up by contacting me at or +52 552-669-4821. If you do not have fabric or materials but would like to donate money, please go to www.ojala-ninos.org for donation information.
