    Writers’ Conference 15th Anniversary Extravaganza
    By Susan Page

The International San Miguel Writer’s Conference has become a world-famous event, and our Fifteenth Anniversary Extravaganza will be the best Conference/Festival ever. Customized packages and tickets to individual events are available on line.

    Keynote Speakers
Our 2020 Conference will bring together the most decorated group of authors we have ever presented at a single event.

Our latest addition to the roster of keynote speakers is the magnetic Colum McCann. He has the reputation for being one of most entertaining speakers on the author circuit. His novel, Let the Great World Spin won the National Book Award.

And who has not read Where the Crawdads Sing? It has enjoyed more than a full year, so far, on the New York Times bestseller list, most weeks at #1. Author Delia Owens will be with us in person!

And behold Tommy Orange, another of our keynoters: His stunning debut novel, There There, won The American Book award, and was chosen as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

We will also present the former U.S. Poet Laureate, Juan Felipe Herrera; the most celebrated of Canadian writers, Madeleine Thien; and beloved Mexican novelist, Rosa Beltran.

    Literary Death Match
This hilarious literary game show was so beloved last year that we are bringing it back again in 2020. People who missed it last year were sorry! It presents four rising star writers, judged by three highly entertaining judges.

    Anniversary Anthology
We are overjoyed to announce the publication of a glittering anthology with works from many of our previous keynote speakers including Barbara Kingsolver, Margaret Atwood, Luis Urrea, Calvin Trillin, and more than thirty other eminent authors. Enjoy champagne with us at the Publication Party during the Conference.

    Quinceñera Fiesta
San Miguel offers many galas and parties, but none to equal the Fiesta we are planning for the Conference this year, a full-blown quinceñera for our Fifteenth Anniversary with all the traditions and some truly fun surprises.

Giller Prize Winner to Appear at our Conference
Canada’s most prestigious literary award is the Scotiabank-Giller Prize carrying a purse of $100,000. In a most exciting new event at this year’s Conference, the Giller Foundation has arranged for the 2019 Giller Prize winner to speak at our conference. The recently announce winner is Ian Williams, a charming personality! He will appear in an on-stage interview by prolific Canadian writer Merilyn Simonds.

Tools for Young People, an Alternative to Crime: Reading and Creative Writing
This panel presents experts in the art of enticing young people to love reading and writing. Meet the charismatic and celebrated Benito Taibo, Director of Radio UNAM, and Rosi Zorrilla, coordinator of the Youth Writing Workshops of the San Miguel Writers’ Conference.

    Master Classes for Writers
For writers, we offer three-hour intensive workshops and five-day post conference workshops with some of the finest writing teachers on the planet.
