In a brand new development, one of the most entertaining, humorous, and beloved speakers on the authors’ circuit will present a keynote address at the Writers’ Conference this coming February. National Book Award winner Colum McCann is the author of Let the Great World Spin, which won the National Book Award, TransAtlantic, Letters to a Young Reader, plus three other novels and several collections of short stories. His numerous awards include the International Dublin Impac Prize, the 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China, and an Oscar nomination. His newest novel, entitled Apeirogon, will be published on February 25, just ten days too late to be available at our Conference, but we are sure to hear about it.

Colum McCann is the founder of an international Story Exchange project called Narrative 4 that is making an impact on communities all over the world. The topic of his talk, which promises to be thoroughly engaging, will be, “Story Telling Across the Divides: How Story Telling (and Listening) Can Heal our Tired Hearts.” He believes we can expand our sense of what the world is by listening to others, and can bring about real action on the ground through the exchange of stories.

Big Read Events Continue Without Valeria Luiselli
We regret to announce that one of the authors we had previously engaged, Valeria Luiselli, has cancelled her participation at the Conference, but are thrilled that Colum McCann has agreed to be with us for the entire week. Even though Valeria Luiselli will not be with us in person, her book, Lost Children Archive, is still featured as the book for the community-wide Big Read, and discussion groups for highly acclaimed novel will still take place. To participate in a discussion group, contact Nancy Stich at .

    Multi-Media Global Migrants Program
Also, the extraordinary multimedia, audience participation program entitled, “A Journey in Solidarity with Global Migrants” will still take place at the Instituto Allende on Thursday, January 23 at 5:00 PM. Tickets for this event at $200 pesos are available on line at sanmiguelliterarysala.org . This program was inspired by Luiselle’s novel, Lost Children Archive. Created by Kim Malcolm and Jodi Pincus, it will be an educational and affecting experience, filled with astonishing stories and inspiration. No one will come away unmoved.
